Guide To Park City, Utah Part I

I visited Park City, Utah  for the first time last month, and I fell in love with this winter paradise! It truly is unlike anywhere and anything I’ve ever seen. The majestic mountains, the perfect powdery snow, and of course the skiing … what’s not to love!?

After getting a lot of questions from many of you looking to visit Park City, I wanted to put together a post with what we did, where we stayed, favorites, a few tips and the details on what I packed!

When To Start Planning

If you are planning on going in December/January, a year in advance is when to start organizing your dates and looking at prices & tickets. ALSO, ski gear is EXPENSIVE. Especially for a family of four. If you plan and get organized early, you can buy all the gear little by little and maybe even find things on nice sales! Even restaurants, car rentals and ski classes get booked way in advance. Again, consider the time of year.

Getting There

From Miami, we flew into Texas and then flew to Salt Lake City. We rented a car and drove to Park City. The car rental is a MUST. Don’t be chintzy on the car. Get a solid SUV that can handle the snowy mountain roads and has room for ski gear for the family.  Please note that any liquids you leave in the car overnight will be frozen in the morning 🙂

Where We Stayed

We stayed at the Hyatt Place Park City and we really liked it! Loved the location! The location is about 10 minutes away from the downtown area but there are also stores and restaurants even closer. Highly recommend the corner suites with extra space for a family. It was a comfortable stay for a decent price. The breakfast was actually pretty good and the views of the mountains were incredible.

Where To Ski

We skied at two locations. The first place was PC Ski Mountain. The second place we skied was Canyons. Both times we rented our equipment from Aloha Ski Rental. YES, highly recommend ski school for the kids if they’ve never skied. YES, hire a ski instructor if you’ve never skied. This was my second time skiing and it was a little boring to be in a ski class, but it had been 20 years since I’d last skied and thought it would be a good refresher. Skiing is not difficult for me but if it’s something you’ve never done and you don’t even know how to put on skis, without any doubt make sure you go to ski school! My thoughts were that PC Ski Mountain was easier to ski and the snow was more powdery than at Canyons. At Canyons the runs were more  challenging and the snow was icier. HIGHLY recommend you get fitted for your skis, boots and poles the day before you go skiing. It takes about an hour to do and this way when you do go skiing you have everything ready to go. Use the ski valet and get there on time. Remember, that December is a crazy busy time there and it will be crowded. The earlier you get on the mountain the better. The mountain usually closes at about 4 pm, so we would get there around 10 a.m.

Where We Ate

CHIMAYO RESTAURANT– pretty much the best Southwestern cooking I’ve ever had. You cannot miss their cheese fondue and save room for desserts!

HIGH WEST DISTILLERY– Western Fare and everything is so good. It’s a must!

POWDER Powder offers indoor private dining as well as seasonal outdoor dining overlooking the pool and courtyard. The atmosphere is chic and  with elegant dining and spirits.

Part 2 coming soon, where I’ll share what we packed! Thanks for reading 😀
